Verona

The story of Verona is one of constant change from prehistoric times until the present day.  At various points in her history the Romans, the Venetians, the French, the Austrians and even a family clan, the Scaligeris, have ruled Verona.  Each has contributed to her rich history and culture and has made Verona one of Italy’s most interesting destinations.

Many important monuments and buildings survive in fine condition. The best known is the magnificent Roman Arena, still the city’s largest structure, which hosts the famous annual opera festival from June to August. We recommend early booking to secure tickets.

Although a thoroughly cosmopolitan and bustling city, the legacy of Verona’s history is still very much in evidence.  Whether you have come to enjoy the splendours of opera at the Arena, or to explore the fate of the tragic lovers, Romeo and Juliet, Verona offers the visitor a veritable cultural and artistic treat. We suggest that you combine a stay in Verona with a few days on the shores of nearby Lake Garda or at the Villa Del Quar, just a short drive away.
