Madrid is a people's city and the exuberant way of life of the charming Madrileños is impossible to resist. Linger over a late lunch, settle down to a siesta, keep hunger at bay at a tapas bar and don't expect dinner until at least 10pm. No wonder the nightlife continues until dawn.

Madrid is one of the most cultural capitals in Europe. Most visitors head straight to the Prado to see its unrivalled collection of Spanish art but don't miss the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, where the whole history of art from the past eight hundred years is superbly represented.
