A Vienna holiday reveals a city of imperial splendour, of Art Nouveau, of waltzes and coffee houses. A grand 'Ring' of 19th Century palaces surrounds the mediaeval city, with its narrow streets, hospitable inns, cafés and shops.

It is a cosy and welcoming city with a rich native cuisine including sumptuous puddings and delicious pastries. Vienna offers many rewards to anyone with an interest in the arts. The city's museums and galleries are of the highest order: the Old Master collection at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Leopold Museum with its works by Austrian painters, the recently opened Liechtenstein Palais with its Baroque collection are all a must for art lovers. Add to this the splendour of the Habsburg palaces, the Hofburg and Schonbrunn and the first-rate selection of musical performances at the Vienna State Opera, the Musikverein and the beautiful Konzerthaus.

The Kirker Concierge would be delighted to organise a private walking tour with an expert guide, book tickets for concert, ballet and opera performances or arrange entrance to museums and exhibitions. We have selected some of the city’s myriad cultural highlights below, but the Concierge can also book tickets for many others, from the famous Vienna Boy’s Choir to the Lipizzaner horses at the Spanish Riding School. Please call the Kirker Concierge on 020 7593 2286 or email
Art & Exhibitions
28 October 2014 - 15 February 2015
Kunsthistorisches Museum
In addition to Velázquez’ charming portraits of the royal children – one of the highlights of the Kunsthistorisches Museum – this show includes works loaned from Madrid, London and Boston such as the “Rokeby Venus”, “Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan” and the “Adoration of the Magi”.
Claude Monet and his influence on Austrian Landscape Painting
24 October 2014 - 8 February 2015
Belvedere Palace
The exhibition at the Belvedere assembles many works by Monet that were on view in Vienna around 1900, together with paintings and photographs by Austrian artists such as by Gustav Klimt, Emil Jakob Schindler and Max Weiler.
Joan Miró. From Earth to Sky
12 September 2014 - 11 January 2015
With his imaginative pictorial motifs, Joan Miró is one of the most popular artists of the 20th Century. The Albertina is dedicating a solo exhibition to the Catalonian artist containing around 100 paintings, drawings and objects, which strives to emphasise the poetic quality of the famous Surrealist.
Music & Opera
From the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper, to the Musikverein and the beautiful Konzerthaus, Vienna is blessed with exceptional theatres and concert halls. We would be delighted to book tickets for any of these venues as well as the Spanish Riding School and the Vienna Boys Choir – who will perform together in a rare joint show on 5 December.
Under the musical direction of Franz Welser Möst, the Vienna State Opera is one of the world’s top four opera houses and presents an unrivalled number of performances and productions of both opera and ballet each season.
The current season’s highlights include:
La traviata by Verdi - 5, 8, 12 & 16 December
La Cenerentola by Rossini - 10 & 14 December
Rigoletto by Verdi - 20, 23, 27 & 30 December and 2 January
The Nutcracker (ballet) music by Tchaikovsky - 22 & 26 December

Vienna Masterticket

For all of our clients travelling to Vienna, we are delighted to include a Masterticket which gives you entrance to the Leopold Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts). The Kunsthistorisches was built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the vast Habsburg collections – amongst its many highlights is one of the foremost collections of Old Masters. In contrast, the Leopold Museum is the home of Austrian modern art and includes works by the founder of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt. The Kunstkammer at the Kunsthistorisches Museum is highly recommended; it reopened in 2013 after a 10 year restoration and is one of the world’s most important chambers of art.
