A superb new addition to the game reserves of the Elephant Coast, Thanda opened in May 2004.

Accommodation

The lodge combines the most modern facilities with Zulu design – the traditional homestead of Vula Zulu borders Thanda and so this is a great place to experience Zulu customs and see Impi
warriors performing age-old dancing rituals. The main lodge is a gem, and combines modern luxury with excellent, friendly service. The restaurant serves superb cuisine and has three different dining areas and viewing decks, giving you plenty of alternative backdrops to accompany your meal. The nine luxury bush villas are pure indulgence where privacy is ensured. All are air conditioned, have a private plunge pool and deck, a personal sala and a
private Boma for outdoor dining. The lodge also features a superb spa with a beautiful natural rock swimming pool.

For a really unique experience (especially recommended for a small group), there is a tented village situated deep in to the bush, with four luxury tents, each with spectacular views of the reserve, a dining room and a small pool. The Big Five are all present at Thanda and the superb beaches, diving and wildlife of the Greater St Lucia Wetlands are within an hours drive. The lodge is located three hours drive north of Durban, though there are local flights to Richards Bay (80 minutes away).
