Turin is for many better known as a vibrant commercial centre, however, it deserves much more attention. It is home to one of Italy's most beautiful Cathedrals and, of course, the famous Turin Shroud.

Since the spring clean that took place prior to the 2006 Winter Olympics and the resultant publicity, discerning travellers are becoming increasingly aware that it offers a richly rewarding short break experience.

This was the seat of the House of Savoy, the Italian Royal Family and is a city of opulent palaces, piazzas, churches and colonnaded streets. It has a wonderful setting on the banks of the River Po, surrounded by green hills with the Italian Alps in the distance. Turin has over 40 museums including Museo Egizio, home to the most important collection of Egyptian antiquities outside Cairo. In addition, there is a fabulous opera house,Teatro Regio. The city has Europe's largest outdoor food and vegetable market and some great restaurants. There are a number of direct flights to Turin and it is also easily accessible by rail – it is on the TGV main line from Paris to Milan.
