Paris

Few cities in the world deliver such excitement – and romance – in such a compact area. Paris beguiles with its broad tree-lined boulevards, iconic
monuments, chic boutiques and elegant stores, colourful markets and remarkable museums. The food is worth the journey alone, with some of the
finest gastronomic restaurants, wonderful traditional brasseries and an astonishing array of mouth-watering markets. No two visits to this wonderful city need ever be the same.

Lille

Lille is so much more than a stop for Eurostar en route to Paris. This impressive city, with fine 17th Century buildings, splendid seafood restaurants and an acclaimed museum, is ideal for a break close to home. Only one hour and 20 minutes from Waterloo or just 50 minutes from Ashford on Eurostar’s high speed line.

Rheims

When one thinks of the city of Rheims, the word ‘champagne’ should spring instantly to mind. Previously the domain of self-drive holidaymakers, the recent arrival of the TGV Est high speed line connecting the Champagne region with the French capital in under an hour makes it an excellent short break destination. Whether you wish to base yourself in the ancient city of Rheims itself or in a fine country house hotel amongst the vineyards of Epernay, it is the perfect place for a special occasion and a glass or two of bubbly!

  • Strasbourg

A settlement at the current site of the city of Strasbourg has existed since the Bronze age due to its excellent geographical position at the crossroads of waterways and overland routes. It is now home to the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights. Today, Strasbourg has never been so accessible; with Eurostar’s new high speed line you can be in Paris in little over two hours and a mere change of platform connects you to your TGV train to the heart of Alsace in two hours and 20 minutes. Once here, a variety of fine restaurants, German-style Bierkellers, charming canals, fine architecture and museums await you.

    Brussels

Brussels is one of Europe’s unsung cities, perhaps because it is identified as the administrative capital of Europe. In reality, this welcoming city has a down-to-earth charm, with lively bars, smart cafés, great shopping, outstanding museums and some of Europe’s finest food. At the centre of the old city is the splendid Grand’Place, a spacious gilded square. All this lies just one hour and 50 minutes away on Eurostar from London St. Pancras and just one hour 40 minutes from Ebbsfleet International.

    Bruges

In the Middle Ages, Bruges was one of the richest cities in northern Europe. But it was bypassed by the industrial revolution; the result is a mediaeval masterpiece with cobbled streets, guild houses, palaces and stone bridges over hidden canals. In our unique Kirker Guide Notes we recommend some of the city’s finest restaurants. A selection of the finest examples of Flemish art can be found in the city as well as treasures from all over Europe. The richly detailed canvasses by Van Eyck and Memling can seen at the Groeninge Museum and Michelangelo's moving and inspiring Madonna with Child at the Church of Our Lady are just a few of its treasures.
