Tour departures: 29 Jul 10, 19 Aug 10 Prices from £1698 per person, 5 nights Anyone who loves Puccini should make the journey to his beloved Torre del Lago, a beautiful and peaceful place not far from Lucca where the composer was born in 1858. What better time for a visit than in July when the annual Puccini Festival takes place, with performances of a selection of his operas being performed on the lakeside stage close to the very spot where Puccini lived and composed for more than thirty years. ![]() ![]() Choose between two holidays, both based at the comfortable 4 star Hotel Celide just a few minutes walk to the city walls that still encircle Lucca. Dinner on opera evenings will be taken at the restaurant at Torre del Lago leaving you free to try some of Luccas fine restaurants on other evenings. During the tour there will be a walking tour of Lucca with visits to the church where Puccini was baptized and full day excursions to two great Tuscan gardens close to Lucca the Villa Garzoni with its dazzling water cascades and the Villa Reale at Marlia. The tour will be led by Andrew Biggs who studied music and art history at Leeds University; he has been leading music tours to Italy for the last 15 years.
