Itinerary

With The Doric String Quartet, The Gould Piano Trio, Ilona Domnich, Robert Plane, Simon Rowland-Jones Guest Speaker Elaine Padmore & Choir Master Christopher Monckton. Leaving Harwich we will cross the North Sea and pass through the Kiel Canal, one of the busiest man-made shipping channels in the world, opened in 1895 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. We will be able to observe life on the 61 mile-long canal as it passes through Schleswig-Holstein. Our first port of call is Warnemunde, the port which serves Berlin and from here we will be offering an optional excursion to the beautiful castle at Schwerin. Next comes Stockholm where the Black Watch will remain overnight allowing us the opportunity to attend an optional performance of Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes at the Royal Swedish Opera. We then sail to the picture-book capital of Estonia, Tallinn with its perfectly preserved mediaeval centre before arriving in St Petersburg where we stay for two days. There will be ample opportunity to enjoy the Hermitage and see the city’s famous Imperial palaces. Sailing westwards we will visit Karlskrona on the west Swedish coast with its impressive castle before reaching Copenhagen, a capital city of great charm and intimacy. We then sail back through the Kiel Canal and head for Amsterdam famous for its picturesque canals lined by merchants’ town houses.
