"The Pageant of Venice" at Gladwell & Patterson

19 January 2016

We were delighted to renew an old friendship with the art gallery Gladwell & Patterson in Knightsbridge, to help open their new exhibition "The Pageant of Venice" on Tuesday 19th January.

On a wet January day, over a hundred guests joined us in the elegant gallery on Beauchamp Place, to enjoy a wonderful collection of paintings which transported the viewer to the streets and canals of La Serenissima itself. The Italian Ambassador officially opened the exhibition and a donation will be made to Venice in peril from the proceeds of any painting sold.

Running until 11 February, “The Pageant of Venice” showcases the city through the eyes of old and modern masters. Featuring works by artists including William Russell Flint, Auguste Bouvard and Frank Brangwyn, the exhibition explores the influence of Venice on British art and culture. The enduring appeal of ‘The Floating City’ to tourists and travellers is also considered in the exhibition; from its popularity among the European elite in the 17th century, to its position today as one of the world’s favourite tourist destinations. The exhibition also includes works by several British artists who travelled to Venice to exhibit at the Biennale - Venice's international stage for contemporary art.
