Mount Etna

Overview

Europe’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna dominates Sicily’s east coast from Catania to Taormina and has played a major role in the island’s long history. We recommend a half day excursion including cable car and 4X4 bus which takes the more adventurous travellers near to the summit – the surreal volcanic landscape is well worth the trip on a fine day. Less ambitious visitors can stop half way and enjoy the extraordinary panoramic views, or explore the lower slopes on foot or by bicycle. The fertile foothills have always fed the locals and are now home to some outstanding vineyards where you will also find new ‘agriturismo’ properties offering comfortable accommodation and excellent cuisine. Fly to Catania, our prices include car hire – private transfers can be provided if preferred.
