The Aeolian Islands

Overview

Dotted across the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the northern coast of Sicily, these seven tiny islands provide some wonderful wildlife and scenery due to their volcanic origins and unspoilt countryside. The islands can easily be reached by boat from northern Sicily, or from Naples. Prices include transportation to and from Catania airport.

Salina

Salina is by far the lushest of the Aeolian Islands with more than 400 different types of plants growing here. The island is most famous for the production of Malvasia, a delicious white wine that was traditionally only produced on Salina.

Lipari

The largest island of the archipelago, Lipari has spectacular views across to Vulcano to the south and Salina and Panarea from the north coast. The main town of Lipari has fortified walls and a largely reconstructed Norman cathedral.

Vulcano

The southernmost of the Aeolian Islands, Vulcano is renowned for its beautiful landscape. It has the largest volcanic plateau of the archipelago and is famed for its natural thermal waters and sulphur mud treatments.
