Although today Khajuraho is famed for its UNESCO-listed collection of erotically decorated temples, all around 1,000 years old, the remote town was only rediscovered hidden in jungle by a British hunting party in 1839. The town is still relatively small but has twenty temples divided into three groups. The main groups are set in well maintained gardens and in the evening, there is a sound and light show. The town can be reached by road from Gwalior and Orchha or by flight from Varanasi.
