The Albertina Museum, Vienna

Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), was one of the finest draughtsmen of the mediaeval era, and his exquisitely detailed drawings, sketches and engravings are as strikingly vivid today as they were 500 years ago. Vienna’s Albertina Museum is home to the world’s largest and most important Dürer collection, with almost 140 works which have been part of the same collection since they were first acquired from the artist’s workshop in the early 16th century.

This winter’s major new exhibition will unite the museum’s own pieces with a number of important international loans to create an extraordinary collection of over 200 works – including family portraits, his famous depictions of animals and plants, and detailed studies of hands and clothing on coloured paper.

Vienna Masterticket

For all of our clients travelling to Vienna, we are delighted to include a Masterticket which gives you entrance to the Leopold Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts). The Kunsthistorisches was built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the vast Habsburg collections – amongst its many highlights is one of the foremost collections of Old Masters.

In contrast, the Leopold Museum is the home of Austrian modern art and includes works by the founder of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt. The Kunstkammer at the Kunsthistorisches Museum is highly recommended; it reopened in 2013 after a 10 year restoration and is one of the world’s most important chambers of art.
