The best way to experience the outstanding natural beauty of Green Spain is on board El Transcantábrico. The concept is ‘railway cruising’ with set itineraries that include travel by train between destinations and a series of guided excursions en route. The train remains stationary overnight, giving clients the benefits of a good night’s sleep as well as an opportunity to enjoy evenings out in some of the region’s atmospheric towns. El Transcantábrico is the oldest train in Spain and offers four sumptuous lounge cars which are beautifully restored, original 1920’s Pullman carriages. The most popular journey is between San Sebastian in the Basque Country to Santiago de Compostela which allows you to explore the variery of coastal towns in Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia. Alternatively, you can start your journey in Gijon and travel to Castilla y Leon via Bilbao.A highlight of all journeys is the stunning scenery of the Picos de Europa National Park. Trains run on set departures between April and October – the various routes are marked on the map on page 24.
