Florence & The Tuscan Coast with Baglioni Hotels

Florence, Tuscany 6 nights Price from £1,749 per person

Discover the wonderful city of the Medici before heading to Punta Ala on the Tuscan Coast for peaceful relaxation. This six night holiday combines glorious art, architecture and history with fine cuisine, splendid sea views and two extremely comfortable hotels.

Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and one of Europe’s greatest art cities – with Kirker’s advance tickets for the key museums and expert local guides you can make sure that you make the most of your visit – but it is also one of the best places to sample delicious Tuscan specialities including truffles, wild boar ragu and Chianti wines.

After exploring the city for three days, take a hire car south through the rolling countryside, and spend the second half of your holiday relaxing on the Tuscan coastline at Punta Ala – a less-visited oasis with pine forest, sandy beaches, and delicious al fresco cafes and restaurants.

The Cala del Porto in Punta ala is open from 27 April until 22 September.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Flight to Pisa & complimentary dinner

Fly to Pisa, where you will be met by your Kirker driver and whisked to Florence through the Tuscan countryside – a journey of about an hour. If you prefer, ask to include a stop in Pisa itself where you can visit the famous Leaning Tower and the Renaissance Baptistry while your driver waits with your luggage. On arrival in Florence you will check-in to the Baglioni Hotel Relais Santa Croce, in the historic Santa Croce district, within a few yards of the church of the same name and within walking distance of the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. Book a table for your first night at the hotel’s exquisite restaurant and enjoy an introduction to the finest Tuscan cuisine.
  • Day 2 - Florence - Uffizi Gallery

Spend your first day in Florence exploring the magnificent collection at the Uffizi Gallery – one of the world’s greatest collections of Renaissance art. Kirker’s included ticket gives you guaranteed priority entrance to the gallery, skipping past the lengthy queues which can accumulate at any time of year. We recommend heading here when it opens at 10.00 to have the best chance of appreciating the collection in relative tranquillity. Highlights include the wonderful Botticelli rooms, including the famous painting ‘The Birth of Venus’ and the rooms dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio. For a special treat ask about special access to the Vasari Corridor, a private wing of the gallery hung with portraits and not normally open to the public – the Kirker Concierge can arrange an exclusive private visit.
  • Day 3 - Florence - walking tour

On your second day in Florence you might wish to join a Kirker walking tour – departing every Sunday morning with an expert local guide – or ask about a private walking tour which can be arranged to suit your schedule. Florence is one of the most walkable of Italy’s major cities and a tour with a local guide is an invaluable way to explore parts of the city, and hidden piazzas or buildings, which you might otherwise miss. In the evening, ask about tickets for a concert in one of the city’s many beautiful churches – there is an array of events throughout the year and the Kirker Concierge can book tickets before you travel.
  • Day 4 - Drive to the Tuscan Coast

Collect your hire car this morning from Florence airport – saving you from driving within the city limits, which is a challenge for even the most enterprising of motorists… From Florence it is a drive of between two and three hours down to the coastal resort on Punta Ala – take the coast road through Piombino, or travel inland through the Tuscan hills and stop for lunch in mediaeval Siena en route. Whichever direction you prefer, Kirker will provide driving directions and maps to help steer you in the right direction. On arrival in Punta Ala, drive through the pine-forested peninsula to the Hotel Cala del Porto, where you will check in for a relaxing stay by the sea.
  • Day 5 - Punta Ala

Cala del Porto is located on the edge of the small resort of Punta Ala, an oasis of tranquillity away from the more bustling Tuscan beach towns to the north and south. The hotel itself is surrounded by a pine glade, with the yacht marina on one side and a sandy beach within walking distance through the trees. On your first day you will probably be tempted to relax and enjoy the surroundings, perhaps taking lunch at the beachside restaurant ‘La Spiaggia’ which offers daily specials including barbecued fish at lunchtime with views towards the islands of Elba and Corsica.
  • Day 6 - Exploring the region & complimentary dinner

On your second day in Punta Ala, you may choose to remain in the comfortable surrounds of the hotel, or to venture further afield. Ask the Kirker Concierge about some of the many excursions which you can take to the surrounding region: drive north to Piombino and take the ferry across to Elba where Napoleon spent his first exile, head south to the Renzo Piano designed winery of Rocca de Frasinello, or visit the nearby Gold club Punta Ala for a round. If you have not yet enjoyed your complimentary dinner at this hotel, book a table for your last night at ‘Belvedere’ where chef Giuseppe Angelucci prepares fresh Tuscan dishes and local seafood.
  • Day 7 - Return flight from Pisa

Check out of the hotel and drive back to Pisa airport to return your hire car. The drive is about 90 minutes and takes you through the town of Piombino – famous for Leonardo da Vinci’s fortifications which still stand today.
