Rovos Rail

Johannesburg 10 nights Price from £4,925 per person

Unquestionably, Rovos Rail is among the world’s most luxurious trains and has been operating for 27 years. It has built up a fantastic reputation for capturing the romance and atmosphere of a bygone age. The wood-panelled coaches have been beautifully restored and there are a total of just 36 bedrooms so the atmosphere is intimate and discreet.

We recommend Deluxe Suites which have twin or double beds, a small lounge area and a bathroom with shower. Wonderful cuisine is served in the restaurant car and prices include three superb meals a day with drinks. There is a lounge car in the middle of the train and an observation car at the rear with large windows and open-air balconies.

Rovos Rail operates regularly from Pretoria to Cape Town and Victoria Falls as well as monthly departures in the summer months to Durban. As well as some special golf journeys, the train travels through Namibia six times each year and twice each year covers the epic 15-day journey from Cape Town to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania.

Rovos have also recently acquired and painstakingly restored the 3-star Shongololo Express train and will soon be offering a variety of longer routes through South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia for more budget conscious travellers.

Recent Testimonials

Rovos Rail

By Mr & Mrs C, Surrey, 12 April 2018

The trip with Rovos Rail was excellent. We were delighted that we started in Pretoria and not Cape Town. The private station at Pretoria with the welcome from owner, Rohan Vos helped to set up the trip. The comfort, hospitality and service of the train and the stewards were excellent. The quality and presentation of the food was particularly notable.
