Spitsbergen & The Arctic Circle

15 nights Prices on request

A remote and evocative archipelago, the islands of Norway’s Arctic north hold a unique allure for those with a sense of adventure. During the long midsummer days, Black Watch will cruise up the spectacular Norwegian coastline, past the Seven Sisters’ Mountain range, and the North Cape as far as the Arctic outpost of Spitsbergen. We will be joined throughout by the Sacconi Quartet, for a series of private recitals on board.

The Itinerary

Liverpool – Leknes, Lofoten Islands – Tromso – Honningsvag (North Cape) – Pyramiden - Longyearbyen, Svalbard – Klaksvik – Torshavn, Faroe Islands – Liverpool

Sailing from Liverpool we will travel around the coast of Scotland and spend two days at sea before reaching the coastline of Norway. We then turn north and enjoy some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the world including soaring mountain ranges and peaks, such as the Seven Sisters and Hat Mountain.

After crossing the Arctic Circle we will then call in at a trilogy of contrasting ports - Leknes on the Lofoten Islands, a string of picturesque islands linked by bridges and causeways; Tromso, known as the “Gateway to the Arctic” with its striking Arctic Cathedral and the most northern cultural outpost in Norway; and then Honningsvag on the North Cape itself.

But the real adventure begins after the North Cape, when we sail to the glorious but chillingly remote Svalbard Islands. We will stop at Pyramiden and Longyearbyen, two evocative, curious and long-deserted Soviet mining towns. There will be magnificent views of the Tuna Glacier and the majestic Tempelfjorden.

Turning south, we shall stop at two ports on the Faroe Islands, an archipelago of 18 islands in total, many of which are linked by tunnels and bridges.

It was great - the music made the cruise worthwhile. I wouldn't go on a cruise normally, but the concerts were excellent.
