The Grand Hibernian

Dublin 5 nights Price from £6,098 per person

Ireland’s ultimate luxury train journey glides through the lush countryside, dramatic coastlines and historic towns and cities of the Emerald Isle. The carriages have been carefully created to offer the highest levels of comfort, with en-suite bathrooms, Ulster wool carpets and carriages named after the counties of Ireland and decorated with local tartans. The train departs from Dublin and offers a four night ‘Legends and Loughs’ trip through Cork, Killarney, Galway and Connemara, which takes in some of the most stunning coastal scenery in Ireland; or a two night ‘Taste of Ireland’ round trip into Northern Ireland, which includes visits to the Giant’s Causeway and the Old Bushmills Distillery – or combine the two for an ultimate Grand Tour of Ireland.

Our suggested itinerary below is based on the Legends and Loughs’ journey.

Fly to Dublin where you will be met by your Kirker driver at the airport and transferred directly to the 5* Deluxe Hotel Merrion in the cultural heart of the capital, on Merrion Square. The hotel is just yards from Trinity College, the National Gallery of Ireland and St Stephen’s Green, and within walking distance of the River Liffey and Temple Bar.
  • Day 2 - Head south to Cork

Board the Belmond Grand Hibernian for the first leg of your journey, heading south to the ‘Rebel City’ of Cork as you enjoy afternoon tea. On arrival there will be an opportunity to visit the charming small town of Cobh outside Cork, which was the last port of call for the Titanic before its ill-fated maiden voyage. Back on board the train there will be a delicious dinner served in the evening.
  • Day 3 - Cork & Killarney National Park

Enjoy a traditional Irish breakfast before disembarking for a walking tour of Cork including its famous English Market, a historic covered food market which dates from the 18th century. Alternatively, you may prefer to join a tour of the nearby Jameson Distillery including a tasting of fine whiskey. Board the train again for lunch as we travel west to Killarney National Park where you will see mediaeval Ross Castle and enjoy a boat trip on Lough Leane. This evening there will be a traditional music performance on board before dinner.
  • Day 4 - The Atlantic Coast

Travelling up Ireland’s Atlantic Coast we will arrive in Galway today, from where guests have the option to visit the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most spectacular natural sites, towering 700m above the crashing waves below. For those who prefer there will also be a walking tour of Galway and a visit to Dunguaire Castle. Dinner will be served on board as the train heads towards Athlone.
  • Day 5 - Westport

The final full day with the Grand Hibernian is spent in Westport, a charming small town on the west coast, where we will visit the country life museum and enjoy a traditional pub lunch. There will also be an opportunity to visit the historic Westport House and views of the peak of nearby Croagh Patrick.
  • Day 6 - Dublin & return flight

Arriving back in Dublin today you will be met by a Kirker driver for your transfer to the airport, or ask about continuing your stay in the Irish capital.
