The Kirker Cornwall Music Festival

4 nights Prices on request

Following the annual success of the Kirker Music Festival in St. Mawes, we’ve added a new Cornish destination. The highlight of this new festival is the visits we will make to Boconnoc near Lostwithiel. This magnificent house is set in a huge park and has twenty acres of wonderful gardens. We will be welcomed at Boconnoc by Elizabeth Fortescue who lives on the vast estate and we will visit the house twice – once for a morning concert after which we will stay on for lunch and a talk on Boconnoc, and again for an evening concert followed by dinner in the house. The tour is based in the pretty town of Fowey, ten miles from Boconnoc.

What's included

...when you travel with Kirker

  • Four nights' accommodation with breakfast
  • Three dinners at the hotel and one at Boconnoc
  • One lunch at the Hotel Tresanton
  • Transfers between Fowey, Boconnoc, St. Mawes and St. Ives
  • Three concerts as described
  • The services of the Kirker Tour Leader

  • Day 1 - Arrival

Please make your own way to The Fowey Hotel. Clients travelling by train should book to either Par and continue their journey by taxi (call us if you would like us to arrange taxis for you). Hotel car parking can be prebooked for a nominal charge. The Fowey Hotel is a traditional resort hotel with magnificent views of the Fowey River. It has comfortable bedrooms, an atmospheric bar and restaurant.
  • Day 2 - Boconnoc

We drive to Boconnoc this morning for our first visit. Coffee will be served on arrival before a welcome and introduction by Elizabeth Fortescue. Our first concert will be followed by lunch and then we will return to Fowey.
  • Day 3 - St. Mawes

Today we drive to St. Mawes, a picturesque and fashionable village overlooking the sea. On arrival, we will go to the old Methodist Chapel which has a lovely acoustic and is ideal for chamber music. After the concert we will walk down to the Hotel Tresanton where we will have lunch and then return to Fowey.
  • Day 4 - St. Ives

We spend the day in St. Ives where the Tate reopened in October 2017 after a four year redevelopment which has doubled its size. There is now a permanent collection with works by artists from, or with close association to, Cornwall. The new building at the Tate will be closed between 30 September and 20 October for a major re-hang and during this time the gallery’s permanent collection is being displayed in the original building. On arrival we will have an introductory talk by a member of staff who will escort us to Gallery Five in the new building so that we can form some impression of how the Tate has been charged following its major redevelopment. Afterwards there will be free time to view the Tate’s permanent exhibition as well as the nearby Barbara Hepworth Studio and Garden. In the evening we return to Boconnoc for our final concert and then enjoy dinner together afterwards.
  • Day 5 - Tour ends

    The tour ends after breakfast.
