In one of Europe's blockbuster exhibitions of 2023, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam hosts the largest Johannes Vermeer retrospective ever held. Working in collaboration with the Mauritshuis in The Hague and international loans, this exhibition devoted to the 17th century master will be an unmissable opportunity to view these exceptional pieces all together.
The Rijksmuseum has four paintings by Vermeer in its permanent collection including the Milkmaid and The Little Street, and among the loans will be perhaps Vermeer's most famous Masterpiece The Girl with a Pearl Earring from the Mauritshuis (on display in the exhibition until 30 March) as well as The Geographer (Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main), Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid (The National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin) Woman Holding a Balance (The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC) and the newly restored Girl Reading a Letter at the Open Window (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden).

Following a 10 year refurbishment the Rijksmuseum re-opened in 2013 and contains works by all the major Dutch Masters including one of the wealthiest Rembrandt collections in existence. The permanent collection at the Van Gogh Museum contains over 200 paintings and 500 drawings by the artist. It is beautifully laid-out, taking visitors through his work chronologically.
Rated as ‘one of the 100 best hotels in the world’, the Ambassade consists of 10 beautiful 17th century Dutch houses, overlooking the Herengracht and Singel canals.
