The Viennese Christmas Markets date back as far as 1294 and take place throughout the city from 18 November until 26 December. The “Christkindlmarkt” at Rathausplatz with its elaborately decorated trees is the classic, whereas the Schonbrunn Palace featuring festive concerts is the most musical, and the historic Spittelberg quarter where you can buy traditional handicrafts from granite stoned alleyways is perhaps the most authentic.

For all of our clients travelling to Vienna, we are delighted to include a Masterticket which gives you entrance to the Leopold Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts). The Kunsthistorisches was built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the vast Habsburg collections – amongst its many highlights is one of the foremost collections of Old Masters.
In contrast, the Leopold Museum is the home of Austrian modern art and includes works by the founder of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt. The Kunstkammer at the Kunsthistorisches Museum is highly recommended; it reopened in 2013 after a 10 year restoration and is one of the world’s most important chambers of art.
Located in the Old City, next to the Spittelberg artist's district with its many interesting shops, cafes and good local restaurants and within 10 minutes' walk of the Volkstheater and the spectacular new Museums Quartier.
The sister hotel of the Imperial, the Bristol is traditional and elegant and has been the focal point of Vienna's cultural life for over a century.
This fine hotel stands on the Karntner Ring in the centre of Vienna, a few yards from the Opera House and a ten minute stroll from St. Stephen's Cathedral.
A hotel of excellent quality, located in a small side street just outside the south-western corner of the Ringstrasse, some ten minutes' walk from the Opera House and the heart of the historic city centre.
Our expert reservations team regularly travel to a wide range of destinations to explore new cities, visit hotels and to research museums, galleries and restaurants so that we can offer the most up-to-date advice and recommendations.
