Dr Chris Jackson

Chris is a world-renowned geologist, science communicator, and explorer whose work has taken him from desert dunes to deep-sea basins in search of the stories written in the rocks of our planet.

He is technical director at the engineering consultancy WSP and visiting professor of basin analysis at Imperial College London. Chris is a geologist, with an interest in how we can sustainably and safely use the Earth’s subsurface to access critical resources and store hazardous waste. He earned his PhD in geology through extensive fieldwork in Egypt, where he investigated the formation and evolution of ancient sedimentary basins - research that helped deepen scientific understanding of Earth’s dynamic geological processes. When not studying the subsurface of the Earth, Chris gives geoscience lectures to the public and in schools, having appeared on several, earth science-focused, television productions and podcasts.
