Stephen Nelson is an artist who divides his time between London and southern Italy. His work has been exhibited internationally as well as in the UK, including at Camden Arts Centre, the Whitechapel Gallery, the Fine Arts Society and twice recently at the Royal Academy Summer Show.
Stephen has also curated exhibitions in Eritrea and Tanzania for the British Council and, for the Estorick Collection, London, an exhibition about British art and the Italian arte povera movement.He is the founder and curator of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Cogliandrino (MACC), which presents site-specific installations by British artists within the Pollino National Park in Basilicata, Italy.
With his knowledge of contemporary art and art history, Stephen has taught and lectured for many years. He has also contributed to the making of documentary films about artists, including, most recently, Seventh Art Production’s Caravaggio(2025), which was made as part of the Exhibition on Screen series.
