Caspar David Friedrich: Where It All Started

Dresden, Germany
Kirker Holidays

Albertinum and the Residenzschloss
24 August 2024 to 5 January 2025

The culmination of a year of events marking the 250th anniversary of the artist’s birth, Dresden will be holding an exhibition at two venues, in the Albertinum and in the Kupferstich-Kabinett (24 Aug -17 Nov). Caspar David Friedrich lived in Dresden for more than 40 years, and it was in the Saxon countryside that he found much of the inspiration for his Romantic paintings which put natural landscapes at their heart. He hiked in the scenic surroundings close to the city and further afield, and studied the masters in the city’s museums, inspiring many of his most outstanding masterpieces, regarded today as the pre-eminent works of German Romanticism.
