Cultural Highlights
The much anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum has officially opened its doors to the public in October 2024. Situated just two kilometres from the pyramids of Giza, it offers easy access from some of Egypt’s most visited sites. With a floor space of over 872,000 square feet, The Grand Egyptian Museum has become the largest archaeological museum in the world, and with a collection of over 100,000 ancient Egyptian artefacts, is also the world’s largest museum dedicated to one single civilisation.
The museum’s design was created as a result of a competition carried out in 2002, accumulating more than 1,500 entries across the globe. Winning architects were Roisin Heneghan and Shi-Fu Peng whose design resembled a chamfered triangle. Following a series of setbacks, the museum has opened 11 years after the original target date.
With the world’s most comprehensive collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts, the museum’s exhibits will be divided into four sections:
Additionally, the museum will have 28 shops, a conference centre and a cinema within its building.
Please note that due to the museum’s limited daily capacity, advance reservations are required for groups of six or more. We encourage you to inform your clients to book their trips early and be part of this remarkable journey through Egypt’s history.
