Just west of the Hofburg Palace in Maria-Theresia-Platz, Vienna’s grandest museum houses the immense collection built up by the Hapsburg dynasty over the generations. On display are particularly impressive works from the Dutch Golden Age by Rembrandt, Bruegel and Vermeer as well as the great Spanish and Italian masters, Caravaggio, Velazquez and Raphael.

As well as the Old Masters, there are galleries of ancient Egyptian and Roman art, and the Kunstkammer, which houses a spectacular array of jewellery, sculpture and other curiosities.
