Located in Paris’ 8th arrondissement is the Musée Jacquemart-André, a museum based in the 19th-century former residence of Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart. After undergoing a year of renovation work, the museum reopened its doors to the public in September 2024. Inside this elegant mansion is the couple's vast collection of artwork, antiquities and furniture that they collected throughout their lifetimes, including paintings by French, Flemish and Italian Renaissance Masters.

Édouard André came from a wealthy family of bankers, devoting his fortune to buying works of art. Nélie Jacquemart was an esteemed society painter, who painted André’s portrait 10 years prior to their marriage. Every year, the couple would travel to Italy, accumulating one of the finest collections of Italian art in France. When André died, Jacquemart continued acquiring precious works for their collection, travelling as far as South-East Asia. Their mansion and its collections were bequeathed to the Institut de France, opening to the public as a museum in 1913.

The museum offers a sequence of rooms with painted or carved ceilings, adorned with paintings, exquisite furniture pieces and antiquities from as far as the Ancient Egyptian periods. After being closed for a year of renovations, Musée Jacquemart-André now contains new information screens in the rooms and a restored frescoed ceiling in the restaurant-tea room Le Nélie. The museum has now introduced a limited number of opera evenings, where visitors can enjoy performances in a truly unique setting.
