Museo Correr

Venice, Italy
Kirker Holidays

The Museo Correr was founded in 1836 by Teodoro Correr, a Venetian aristocrat who bequeathed both his collection of art and antiquities, and his Grand Canal palace housing it, to the city. The museum has a varied collection, with some of Venice’s most fascinating artefacts from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Highlights include works of art such as paintings by Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese; sculptures by Antonio Canova and a collection of Doge Francesco Morosini, including relics of clothing, his sword, and armour and weapons he used during conquests. The museum is set across a palace in opulent rooms, many with gold-crested ceilings and frescoed walls.
