National Museum of Cinema

Turin, Italy
Kirker Holidays

The National Museum of Cinema is located in Turin’s city centre inside the scenic Mole Antonelliana tower, a symbolic monument of Piedmont’s capital. It follows the history of the film industry from its origins in shadow theatre via the first magic lanterns to the astonishing special effects of the present day.

The core of its collection is the result of the work of Italian film historian and collector Maria Adriana Prolo and is now operated by the Maria Adriana Prolo Foundation. The comprehensive display of 1.8 million items includes films, photographs, equipment, posters, documents, sound recordings, books and records. This material is presented in an interactive layout proposed by Swiss stage designer François Confino. It consists of different sets, projects and light effects that spiral upwards on five levels, followed by an exhibition of images, sketches and different objects. Fitted into the main temple hall of the Mole, there is also a series of chapels representing several film genres.

Additionally, a visit to the National Museum of Cinema is a unique opportunity to see the city from above. At the centre of the Mole Antonelliana is a lift with transparent glass walls that will take you to the top in less than a minute, giving you a panoramic view of the city.

The 72-hour Torino card, provided to all Kirker clients visiting Turin, includes complimentary entrance to the National Museum of Cinema (in addition to over 160 other cultural sites including museums, monuments, fortresses and Royal Residences in Turin and Piedmont, as well as free use of the city’s overground public transport system and reductions on prices of guided tours, theatre and concerts).

Open daily 09:00-19:00 except Tuesdays, with late entry until 22:00 on Saturdays. The final lift ride from the Panoramic Terrace takes place 10 minutes before closing time.
