Cultural Highlights
The Pinacoteca Ambrosiana is a must see gallery in Milan. It was established in 1618 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo who donated his extensive collection of paintings, drawings and statues. The 24 rooms are home to masterpieces such as The Madonna and Child with Three Angels by Botticelli, Basket of Fruit by Caravaggio, Portrait of a Musician by Leonardo da Vinci, and Adoration of the Magi by Titan, and many more. We recommend paying a visit to the spectacular room devoted to Raphael’s cartoon The School of Athens fresco in the Vatican.
The Biblioteca Ambrosiana is equally spectacular. Inaugurated in 1609 to house Cardinal Federico Borromeo's collections of books and paintings, it was the second public library inaugurated in Europe and Italy's first. Currently, it has over 750,000 books and over 35,000 manuscripts. Notably, it is home to Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus, the largest collection of his original Renaissance manuscripts.
