Sainte Chapelle

Paris, France
Kirker Holidays

Sainte Chapelle is a 13th century chapel in Paris. It was constructed from 1242 - 1248 by Louis IX as a private chapel within the royal palace, sharing grounds with the Conciergerie. As a private chapel for royalty, it is notably smaller in size, and was completed in a particularly impressive time frame when compared to churches such as Notre Dame that took over 200 years to complete.

The chapel's most remarkable feature is its large stained glass windows that exude a mesmerising purple hue that perfectly complements the striking gothic arches. These stained-glass windows are considered to be the oldest and finest in Paris. For the best experience, we recommend visiting on a sunny morning to fully appreciate the brilliance of the stained glass, and we advise, if possible, to arrive promptly after opening to avoid queues and crowds.
