Sorolla Museum

Madrid, Spain
Kirker Holidays

-CLOSED FROM OCTOBER 2024 UNTIL EARLY 2026 FOR RENOVATION AND EXPANSION-

The Sorolla Museum is located in the former residence and studio of the renowned Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863 - 1923). Recognised as one of Spain’s great artists, Sorolla painted portraits, landscapes and scenes of everyday life, often using vibrant colour and brushstrokes to depict the shimmering of light and water. Upon his death, his widow Clotilde García del Castillo bequeathed the house to the government, requesting that a museum be opened in remembrance. The museum houses the largest collection of his work, with thousands of drawings and paintings as well as personal possessions to gain an unique and intimate insight into the artist’s life. The home has remained in its original decoration and includes a garden that was designed himself.
