Elba is 10 miles off the coast and is reached by ferry from Piombino. Known for its 150 beaches and abundance of nature, it has a fascinating past. Napoleon's legacy is clear following his exile here in 1814 but much evidence remains of occupation from the Etruscans and the Romans. It lies inside the Parco Nazionale del l'Arcipelago Toscano and has been well protected from mass tourism.
