Overview

A sleepy fishing village until the arrival of the Arabs in the 9th century, the town’s fine Norman cathedral attests to its adaptability and longevity. In 1997 when the leg of a Roman statue was discovered by local fishermen who went on to collect one of the most significant finds from the Roman era.Visiting the display in the restored Sant’Egidio church is one of the highlights of any visit to the island’s west coast.
