Europe’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna dominates Sicily’s east coast and has played a major role in the island’s history. We recommend a half-day excursion including cable car and 4X4 bus which takes the more adventurous travellers near to the summit – the surreal volcanic landscape is well worth the trip on a fine day. Less ambitious visitors can stop half way and enjoy the extraordinary panoramic views, or explore the lower slopes on foot or by bicycle. The fertile foothills are home to some outstanding vineyards where you will also find new ‘agriturismo’ properties offering excellent cuisine. Fly to Catania, our prices include car hire
– private transfers can be provided if preferred.

Lovingly converted into a boutique hotel on the lower slopes of Mount Etna, this estate was originally a Saint Anne’s monastery; the name ‘Monaci delle Terre Nere’ means ‘the monks of the black soil’.
On Etna’s eastern slope, close to the town of Linguaglossa, the Villa Neri is a beautiful modern hotel in a well-established estate, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and oak trees; the ideal escape within 10 miles of Taormina.
