On the train line that links Venice with Milan, Verona and Bologna, Padua makes an excellent addition to a tailor-made holiday. The Scrovegni Chapel with its wonderful frescoes by Giotto rivals da Vinci’s Last Supper and the Museo Civico agli Eremitani with its remarkable collection of artefacts from Padua’s pre-Roman history should not be missed. The city has two major markets and excellent shopping around the Prato della Valle, the enormous public square.
