Santa Maria di Castellabate

City

Overview

Castellabate lies two hours south of Naples and is a mediaeval town dominated by its impressive castle founded in 1123. It is beautifully preserved and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Below the town, you’ll discover the unspoilt seaside village of Santa Maria di Castellabate with its sandy beach. 30 minutes to the north lies Paestum, the ancient Greek polis with its spectacularly well preserved temples and its museum showcasing a mixture of Greek, Lucanian, and Roman artefacts. A stay in Castellabate can easily be factored into a tailor-made itinerary and there are now direct flights from the UK to Salerno airport, just 45 miles away.
