City

Overview

A popular seaside resort since the late 19th century when wealthy travellers visited as part of their ‘Grand Tour,’ Viareggio sits between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the white peaks Apuan mountains. It is a great place to experience Italy’s unique ‘beachlife’ where serviced lidos sit side by side as far as the eye can see. The elegant, bustling promenade is flanked by Liberty and Art Nouveau architecture and there are important monuments to discover including the Clock Tower, Mazzini Square, the Statue of Burlamacco, the and the Palace of the Muses with its rich art collection. Forte dei Marmi, Lucca Pietrasanta and Torre del Lago are all close by.
