Although a popular summer holiday destination, a stay in the Algarve in the
Spring and Autumn is highly recommended when temperatures are mild and
the region is much quieter than during the busier summer months. With 300 days of sunshine a year, it is also a good option for those looking for some winter sun. Famous for its rugged coastline of stunning rock formations and beautiful sandy beaches there is much more on offer including some wonderful seafood, interesting towns such as the mediaeval fortresses of Silves and Sagres, and peaceful hilltop villages like Loulé and Monchique. With good air and rail links to Lisbon and Oporto, the region can easily be combined with other destinations in Portugal as part of a tailor-made holiday.

Just half an hour from Faro is the resort of Vilamoura, with its marina ringed by restaurants and bars. The Domes resort is a five-minute walk from the centre, on the edge of a vast private lake and just 10 minutes from a long, sandy beach.
When this 19th century jewel opened as a hotel in 1934, it was the first of note on the Algarve. At the time, Praia da Rocha was a sleepy village and although it is now a lively resort town, this precious hotel has managed to maintain an oasis-like tranquillity which is immediately apparent as you pass though the high, wrought-iron entrance gates.
The town of Vila Real de Santo António is situated on the banks of the River Guadiana which separates Portugal and Spain and has a completely different
atmosphere from the busy tourist resorts to the west of Faro. With a precise matrix of streets around a large, central square, the town has a variety of 18th century architecture, a good choice of restaurants serving freshly caught fish
and a pretty promenade.
Located one mile from the seaside town of Armaçao de Pera and ten minutes’
drive from Porches, the picturesque village famed for its ceramics, Vila Vita Parc
is perched on sandstone cliffs with spectacular views of the ocean. The resort is made of a main Moorish-style building and a series of whitewashed buildings
that are dotted amongst palm trees.
Less than an hour from Faro airport and located just outside the lively resort of Albufeira, the Grand overlooks the sandy crescent of Praia de Santa Eulalia.
