On the Cantabrian coast just a stone’s throw from the French border, Hondarribia is a charming city in its own right, too often overlooked in favour of nearby San Sebastian or Santander. Explore its historic quarter from the Santa María Gate to the San Nicolás Gate, and you will encounter historic churches and townhouses with balconies, as well as some excellent restaurants where you can enjoy the local Basque pinxtos and tapas.
