Valencia, Spain’s third city, has an exciting blend of the old and new. The city of El Cid has Moorish palaces, a fine cathedral, a beautifully preserved historic quarter and an excellent sandy beach just minutes by taxi from the city centre. The youthful population are equally proud of the striking modern buildings including the spectacular new City of Arts and Sciences, designed by the brilliant architect, Santiago Calatrava. As you would expect in the home of paella, the food is outstanding, and inland, the great rice fields, orange, olive, fig and almond groves stretch as far as the eye can see.
