One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Petra’s buildings and tombs were first carved directly from the red rocks of the valley in the 6th century BC. Centuries of natural disasters have crumbled many of the city’s buildings; however, Petra still has its kilometre long entrance gate, the Siq and the Treasury in excellent condition and now has one of the world’s finest archaeological museums.
