Atlas Mountains

Overview

Located 90 minutes' drive from Marrakech the snow-capped peaks and lush valleys of the High Atlas Mountains offer a wonderful tonic to the hustle and bustle of city life with fresh mountain air, spectacular views and secluded Berber villages.

One of the most majestic mountain ranges in Africa, the Atlas Mountains separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastal areas of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia from the arid Sahara Desert beyond.  In the south of Morocco, the High Atlas is the most dramatic part of the range, which reaches a peak of over 4,000m at Mount Toubkal.  Visit the foothills of on a day trip from Marrakech and make sure to find time to visit the ancient Berber villages perched on the mountainside, or even better stay at one of our countryside hotels where you can enjoy warm hospitality, panoramic views and delicious Berber cuisine.  Stay for longer as part of a tailor-made Morocco holiday and you might include expert-guided treks, jeep excursions to the Ourika Valley and the famous Tizi N’Test mountain pass – or simply relax at the pool and enjoy a glass of wine on a restaurant terrace.
