Once you leave Colombo and travel south towards Galle, the road follows the coast passing through small towns and resorts. There are frequent glimpses of the Indian Ocean and sandy beaches. The prettiest and one of the larger resort towns between Galle and Colombo, the quiet beach front of Bentota is host to several charming boutique hotels. Local architect, Geoffrey Bawa’s influence can be seen in many of the best hotels along the coast and a guided visit to his famous Lunuganga country house and gardens is highly recommended.
