Our new tour to The Eternal City, led by art historian and adopted-Roman Caroline Howard, will showcase the city’s rich and varied cultural history from the perspective of a local expert. This is a fascinating insight into the city which goes beyond the tourist highlights to reveal Rome’s ancient past, from the Etruscans to the rise and fall of the Empire, through the Renaissance and into the 20th century. There will be visits to The Appian Way and Ostia Antica, a variety of museums and several world-class galleries, including the Galleria Borghese, which exhibits masterpieces by artists such as Caravaggio, Raphael and Bernini. We will also touch on Rome’s modern history, evident in the architecture of the EUR district and one of the largest examples of fascist urban planning in Italy.
