Spanish chef and culinary expert Omar Allibhoy will guide our new itinerary through the heart of one of Spain’s least-visited regions: the historic plains and ancient cities of Extremadura. This part of the Iberian peninsula has a generous culinary tradition and was once the Roman province of Lusitania – its capital, Mérida remains one of Spain's finest UNESCO World Heritage sites. The surrounding dehesa landscape is a sparse oak forest home to the prized Black Iberian pigs, and we will visit one of the region’s top producers of acorn-fed 'jamón ibérico de bellota'. We will also enjoy specialities such as zorongollo (an exquisite salad of roasted red peppers), sample excellent cheeses such as Torta del Casar produced in Casar de Cáceres, and taste the wines of Ribera del Guadiana and traditional local drinks such as 'beso extremeño' or a “kiss from Extremadura”.
