Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus)
The rise of National Socialism in 1920s Germany, and its seizure of power in the 1930s, was one of the most catastrophic events in history, plunging the world into devastating conflict. Expert military historian Hugh Macdonald-Buchanan guides our new tour to Nuremberg, Munich and Salzburg; three pivotal cities in the Nazi Party’s route to power. Exploring each city with an engrossing historical focus, our journey takes us from the beer halls of Munich to Hitler’s ‘Eagle’s Nest’ in the Bavarian Alps, and from the rally grounds of Nuremberg where the Nazi Party held its mass gatherings, to the courthouse where the post-war trials were held in the same city. We will visit important documentation centres and see the harrowing site of Dachau concentration camp. This is a dark period in European history, which deserves our study and understanding.
