At the mouth of the Douro River, Oporto is the gateway to the dramatic valley which stretches as far as the plains of Castille and is home to acres of vines from which Oporto's famous eponymous wine is produced. Whilst the fortified Ruby Port is the wine which has made this region famous, particularly in the UK, the vineyards here produce a variety of other wines as well, including award-winning reds, as well as white and rosé.
