We are delighted to announce the 2026 holiday for the Arts Scholars, in partnership with Kirker Holidays: in autumn 2026 we will visit wonderful Copenhagen. Celebrated by Danny Kaye in the soundtrack to the 1952 film ‘Hans Christian Andersen’, it is a beautiful maritime city with a fascinating history and a world-class reputation for design – from architecture to furniture, not to mention celebrated jewellers and silversmiths such as Georg Jensen.
Our itinerary will include the best of the city’s great palaces, museums and galleries, as well as excursions to Kronborg Castle in Elsinore, home of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and the extraordinary collection of 20th and 21st century art at the Louisiana Musuem of Modern Art in a striking contemporary gallery overlooking the Øresund sound.
Copenhagen has been fascinating travellers from around the world since it was founded in 1167. Many of the city’s most impressive buildings date from the golden age of the 17th century, including the Palace of Rosenburg and the extensive network of canals was also founded at this time. Whatever your interest, the city has something to suit everyone, from world-class museums to exceptional art and design, and you can be sure of experiencing some wonderful Copenhagen hospitality. Nothing better defines the spirit of the Danish people than the concept of hygge, which roughly translated means ‘cosy and snug’. The Danes love to shut out the turmoil of the outside world and strive to create a warm, intimate mood. This concept is reflected in the way Danes approach many aspects of their personal lives, from the design of their homes to their affection for cosy bars and cafés.
