The Bay of Naples is synonymous with the Roman Empire, known best for the eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. After the Empire’s decline, Naples continued to be a centre of great cultural importance. The Romans were followed by Byzantine influence, the Normans and the Bourbons making Naples and its bay arguably the greatest creative melting pot in Europe. Today, buzzing, vibrant Naples seems permanently perched on the edge of chaos, a thrilling and exciting city which often makes visitors feel as if they have left Europe behind. From the comfort of our 4 star hotel on the sea front in the centre of Naples we will explore this colourful city and visit its two most important archaeological sites – Herculaneum and Pompeii.

We will see a third Caravaggio here, ‘The Flagellation of Christ’.

We will tour the island, have lunch at a local restaurant and end the day with a guided tour of the garden at La Mortella.
